The Butterfly Collector- A Series of Short Stories

I actually hope to gradually assemble a novel of connected short stories and character portraits from an imagined average American small town in which each of the characters is nick-named after a species of butterfly. Together, they are introduced in some detail by the butterfly collector ( a sort of local guide or narrator) and their stories are then expanded and interwoven.

Or maybe I should stick with painting pictures.
